Description
This early 19th century building originally comprised a single-storey, three-bay cottage with a basement, later altered and extended in the same century with the addition of a taller, gabled wing to the south. The original cottage, now Bank House, is built of painted whin rubble with margins and rusticated quoins; the addition is rendered in ashlar. A Roman Doric-columned porch features at the front, with a raised attic gable above, containing a round-headed window. A band course runs above ground floor level and plate glass sash windows are featured in the outer bays. The bank office wing has three segmental-headed, arcaded ground floor openings consisting of a central door and two windows, all within shaped margins and incorporating apron panels. Above these is a round-headed bipartite attic window. The roof is slate-covered, with saw-tooth skew patterns and apex stacks. The front is enhanced by square painted ashlar gatepiers, decorative cast-iron gates and railings raised on ashlar coping. The building formerly housed the Union Bank.
