Description
Glenwhilly Farmhouse is a farmhouse and steading dating from the earlier to mid 19th century. The farmhouse is two stories tall, with the first floor breaking the eaves, and features three bays. It is constructed of painted rubble and has painted protruding cills.
On the south elevation, there is a gabled stone porch at the center, which has a door on the west return and a window on the south side. The outer bays contain windows, and there are gabled dormerheads at the first floor. A drystone garden wall is attached to both the left and right sides.
The east elevation is blank. The windows are sash and case with 4-pane glazing. There are gablehead stacks on both the east and west sides, and the roof is covered with small grey slates, featuring no skews and octagonal cans.
The steading is L-shaped, built into the slope to the west, creating a single story on that side and two stories on the east. There is also a single-story range to the north, all made of painted rubble and covered with small grey slates on gabled and piended roofs.
The west range of the steading has windows on both the ground and first floors, a segmental-arched cart arch to the right, and a stable to the left. Inside, the stables have cobbled floors, with swept timber trevises and hecks. The north range consists of two lower buildings that step down in height, featuring various doors and ventilation holes leading to a byre on the east side.
