Description

The Post Office located at 68 George Street in Whithorn dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is a two-storey building with four bays on the right and one bay on the left, featuring a large basket-arch pend at the extreme left. The structure is constructed of rubble walling, with raised painted margins around the windows and long and short angle quoins.

On the ground floor, there is a keystone pend at the extreme left, with a central door flanked by windows. The first floor has five sash and case windows, with plate glass on the ground floor and 15-pane windows above. The building has a raised base and eaves course.

The roof is covered with good graded slate, and there are sandstone skews, a corniced axial and end stack, and some octagonal cans. Additionally, there are four small metal-framed rooflights.
