Description
The former stables, likely dating to around 1759, are associated with Carnsalloch House. They consist of a classical, square-plan stable court with single-storey ranges arranged around a taller, central block. The building is constructed of squared red rubble with polished dressings and margins. Each elevation features a pedimented central gateway rising above eaves level, incorporating a round-arched opening into the open pediment and a keystoned Diocletian window above, with louvered inner and blind outer lights. Altered ground-level openings are present, including 12-pane sashes flanking a blocked gateway opening on the south elevation, with irregularly arranged openings on the other elevations. The building has eaves cornices and piended slate roofs, with an apex roof light above the tower. The tower may have originally featured a cupola.
