Brigend Theatre, Market Square

Brigend Theatre is a small, single-storey building that was originally an Episcopal church, constructed in 1891. It was converted into a theatre in the 1970s. The theatre features a distinctive rounded apse at the south and a steeply pitched roof, and it is located on a sloping site. The exterior is made of coursed, hammer-dressed red sandstone with smooth margins, and it has an eaves cornice. There are round-arched window openings and a pair of round-arched door openings, along with a lower entrance wing to the northeast.

The windows are predominantly plate-glass timber fixed windows, with some rectangular ones. The roof is covered with graded grey slates and has decorative ridge tiles. Cast-iron rainwater goods are present, along with raised skews and skewputts on the entrance wing.

Inside, as seen in 2009, the building has been converted into a theatre. It features a fine, open timber roof that springs from timber corbels, a simple raised stage, and dado height timber boarding.
