Description
43 and 44 Galloway Street in Dumfries is an earlier 19th century building that stands two storeys tall with an attic and features eight bays, with a two-bay east gable that rises from the river level below. The ground floor has mid-19th century shops, although number 46 has been altered, and is topped by a continuous cornice supported by consoles. The exterior is finished in droved red ashlar, with most ground floor openings having basket-arched designs. The first floor windows are sash windows, primarily featuring a four-pane glazing pattern, though there are two blind windows. The building includes two box dormers and has straight skews, with an end stack at the east side. The west gable has been altered and rendered, with the stack removed. The roof is covered with graded slates.
