Description
The Clydesdale Bank, located at 3 and 4 Galloway Street in Dumfries, is an early 19th-century building that has undergone alterations, including a bank front added in the early 20th century. The structure stands two storeys high and features a two-bay east gable that rises from the river level below. The Galloway Street elevation consists of four bays (three plus one), while the Market Square side has two bays. The building is constructed of stugged red ashlar, with painted margins except on the west gable. The polished red ashlar bank front includes a door with a consoled and pedimented hood. The two-bay elevations have architraved windows and a blocked cornice. The Galloway Street elevation features enlarged ground floor windows, along with a door and window in the inner bay. Most windows are sash, with one retaining the original 12-pane glazing pattern. The building has corniced end stacks and a slate roof that is piended at the northwest.
