Description
The South Lodge and Gatepiers, associated with Maxwelton House, likely date from around 1800. The composition includes two square gatepiers constructed from rusticated ashlar, topped with urn finials that were probably added later and sit above stepped caps. A whitewashed gate is present. Low, curved quadrant walls, built of rubble and also whitewashed, flank the lodge. These walls are finished with red ashlar coping and simple cast-iron railings. The statutory address is Maxwelton House South Gatepiers.
