Description
The property comprises a late 17th and early 18th century, two-storey, L-plan house with a derelict single-storey vaulted structure adjoining its south-west angle, which may be of 16th-century origin. The house is constructed of whitewashed rubble with mostly painted roll-moulded margins, and contains some blocked and inserted openings. The house may incorporate earlier fabric, notably at the west gable of the south range, where a cut-down gable appears, featuring an inserted door and not aligned with the north range. Squared upper quoins on the east gable suggest alterations; the south-western angle is indented with a blocked low door. Two additional bays have been added to the south elevation, resulting in irregular window placement on the other elevations. The north range has a door within a piended, full-height projection built of modern brick, and a lean-to abuts the north gable. Mostly sash windows are present, along with end and axial stacks, the modern stack at the south rising from ground level. Straight skews support slate roofs.
The adjoining vaulted structure appears to be the remnant of an earlier building on the site and features two north-facing doors and a double barrel-vaulted interior. A cobbled courtyard is also present. The vaulted structure is documented in the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland Inventory, 1920, No. 233.
