Description
Glencairn Manse, designed by Walter Newall of Dumfries and built in 1840, is a two-story manse. It is constructed with painted render and ashlar dressings. The north, east, and south elevations share a similar design, each featuring two bays with bipartite windows. The bays on the left are slightly advanced and gabled; two of these left bays have a canted window on the ground floor. The north elevation incorporates a doorway, featuring a recessed panelled door within an architrave, adorned with consoles supporting a blind pediment; a narrow bay is situated to the left. All windows are lying-pane sash windows, with a cill band on the first floor and the windows in the right-hand bays linked to the eaves course. A cornice runs along the building, and octagonal stacks are positioned above the wallhead, either in groups or individually over the shallow-pitched gables. The roof is slate-covered.
The property is accompanied by two octagonal painted ashlar gatepiers, distinguished by projecting, facetted, and pointed caps.
