Description
The Bank of Scotland and Manager's House, located at 15-17 St Mary Street in Kirkcudbright, was designed by Peddie and Kinnear with builder McCandlish for Provost William McEwan in 1864. This three-storey, five-bay building features an Italianate style, constructed from squared snecked rubble with yellow polished sandstone dressings. The raked cope to the plinth creates a cill course for the ground floor windows, while a moulded cill course serves the two upper floors.
The outer bays have deeply recessed doors under stilted semi-elliptical moulded arches, which are supported by short engaged stylised Corinthian columns. The ground floor includes three stilted segmental-headed bipartite windows divided by Corinthian shafts. The first floor mirrors this design but features windows with shallow pointed heads, along with a single window in each outer bay. The second floor windows are similarly detailed to those on the first floor, but they have flat heads. The building is topped with a corbelled cornice and a piended slate roof adorned with red ridge tiles.
