Description
Burnfoot Farmhouse and Steading, dated 1845, is a two-storey, three-bay farmhouse that is part of a courtyard steading, which includes single-storey west and north ranges with lofts. The building is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings.
The east front is long and asymmetrical, with the courtyard entrance located on the left. The house is positioned on the right, featuring a central door and 12-pane sash windows in the outer bays. There are gabled dormers on the first floor, projecting eaves, and coped stacks. The adjoining steading range has five bays and includes a dovecot flight hole, as well as two lintelled cart openings in the piended end wall of the south range, which bears an inscription at the eaves.
There are some altered openings on the courtyard elevations of the north, south, and west ranges. The west range has two centrally placed square loft openings and a pyramidal-roofed axial ventilator near the south end. All roofs are covered with graded slates.
