Description
Goldielea Viaduct is a large railway viaduct that was built for the Castle Douglas to Dumfries railway, which opened on November 7, 1859. It spans a wide valley and features 18 round arches supported by battered piers. The structure is made of channelled, bullfaced red ashlar and includes pilaster strips at intervals, which rise upwards to create pedestrian refuges. A string course runs below the coped parapet.
