Description
Goldielea is a mansion house built around 1785, now functioning as a hotel. It is a three-storey, five-bay structure with a basement and symmetrical flanking wings. The building underwent modifications around 1857 and again around 1895, when a brick billiard room and a glass house range were added to the rear. The exterior is rendered with ashlar dressings.
The south-east elevation features steps leading to a central porch supported by Roman Doric columns. There is a cill course at the upper floors, and the upper windows, which were altered around 1895, now have pediments and are cut through the main cornice. The building has corniced end stacks and a piended roof. The two-storey, two-bay wings also have piended roofs and are connected to the main block by recessed low linking bays with enlarged three-light inserted openings. A circular stair turret is located at the rear, with a canted billiard room to the left. The roofs are covered with slate.
Inside, there is a cantilevered stair with decorative cast-iron balusters and panelled doors set in door cases. The ceiling features simple plasterwork. The glass house is timber-framed and includes some cast-iron members.
