Council Offices, 39 Lewis Street, Stranraer

The Council Offices at 39 Lewis Street in Stranraer is a mid-19th century building, constructed after 1845. This two-storey, three-bay T-plan classical villa has been converted into offices. The exterior features painted render with harled sides, a base course, and quoins. The ground floor openings have long and short surrounds, aprons, and consoled dentilled cornices, while the first-floor openings are architraved with projecting sills.

On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there are steps leading up to an Ionic pilastered doorpiece topped with a dentiled cornice. The entrance includes a six-panelled timber door with a letterbox fanlight above, and there is a single window on the first floor directly above the entrance. Each of the flanking bays also contains single windows on both floors.

The windows are four-pane timber sash and case, and there are Velux rooflights present. The roof is covered in grey slate, featuring stone skews and broad gablehead stacks with corniced cans.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1997. The property is bordered by a low painted brick boundary wall along the street, with a coped wall flanking the steps leading to the doorpiece.
