26 Portland Road, Kilmarnock

26 Portland Road in Kilmarnock is a detached, two-storey, three-bay classical villa built around 1855. The building features coursed ashlar, harled, and painted surfaces, with a heavy projecting architraved eaves course and a projecting base course. The windows have moulded margins, and the roof is skew gabled with plain skews and squared putts.

On the north (principal) elevation, there is a central door with a pilastered surround that supports a squared pediment with a projecting cope. Flanking the door are windows with architraved margins, and the first floor has three regularly placed bays. The moulded eaves course projects to the east and west beyond the line of the building.

The east elevation features an architraved door surround on the extreme right, which is shared with No. 24 and conceals a service passageway. The rest of this elevation is blind and is broken at the attic level by a gutter.

The south (rear) elevation is not visible as of 2001. The west elevation has a later wall on the extreme left of the ground floor that provides vehicular access to the rear of the property, with the rest of the elevation being blind.

The front elevation has replacement two-pane PVCu double glazed windows. The roof is piended with grey slate, featuring lead ridging and flashings. There is a brick gablehead stack on the east side with three tall ornate cans, while the stack on the west side is missing.

Inside, some original timber features remain, such as skirting boards and doors. The building is currently used as business premises.
