Description

2 East Fergus Place in Kirkcaldy is a classical villa built around 1830. This two-storey, three-bay building has a rectangular plan and features both a piend and platform roof. The exterior is harled with ashlar quoin strips and dressings, and it has an eaves cornice and blocking course. The ground floor has architraved surrounds, with the ones on the west elevation corniced.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, featuring a corniced doorcase at the center flanked by fluted columns and a deep-set panelled timber door. There are bipartite windows in the flanking bays and regular fenestration on the first floor.

On the south elevation, there is a later extension at ground level, which includes two first-floor windows and a grouped wallhead stack in the center. The east elevation also has symmetrical fenestration, including a stair window at the center.

The villa has timber sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern and is roofed with grey slates. The grouped ashlar stacks are corniced and coped, with a full complement of cans, some of which are polygonal.

Inside, as partially seen in 1996, there is a dog-leg staircase with decorative cast-iron balusters and a timber handrail. The property is enclosed by boundary walls made of coped rubble and harl, featuring decorative cast-iron gates.
