Description

4 and 4A East Fergus Place in Kirkcaldy is a villa built around 1830. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with a rectangular plan and features both a piend and a platform roof. The exterior is harled, with quoins strips and stone margins, and includes a base course and eaves cornice. Notable architectural details include hoodmoulds and stone mullions.

The west elevation is symmetrical, featuring a pilastered and corniced doorway at the center, which has a deep-set panelled timber door and a small-pane fanlight above. Flanking the doorway are hoodmoulded tripartite windows. The first floor has regular fenestration and a full-width decorative wrought-iron balcony supported by cast-iron scroll brackets. To the outer left, there is a deeply recessed entrance bay with a door at ground level and a window above.

The east elevation displays asymmetrical fenestration, including a small piended extension on the ground right side. The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with some polygonal cans.

The boundary walls consist of low saddleback-coped harled walls on the west side and coped rubble walls elsewhere. The statutory listing address was revised in 2019, and the property was previously listed as 4 East Fergus Place, which included the balcony and boundary walls.
