Council Offices, 23 Lewis Street, Stranraer

The Council Offices at 23 Lewis Street in Stranraer is a mid-19th century building, constructed after 1845. It is a two-storey, three-bay terraced house designed in a T-plan layout, sharing a pend with the adjacent property at number 21. The exterior features painted render, a base course, and architraved openings.

On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a step leading to a central entrance. This entrance is framed by a consoled corniced pilastered doorpiece and features a four-panel timber door with a letterbox fanlight above. Flanking the entrance are two single windows at ground level and three single windows on the first floor. To the outer left, there is a timber door leading to the pend.

The windows are four-pane timber sash and case types, and the building has rooflights. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes stone skews and coped ridge stacks that are shared with adjacent properties, along with corniced cans. The rainwater goods are made of cast iron.

The interior was not seen in 1997. The property is also accompanied by boundary walls, which are coped and rendered, and a single square plan gatepier that marks the path to the pend.
