Description
The Keeper's House at Caldwell House is likely an early 19th-century classical villa that underwent remodelling in the early 20th century. It features three bays and three storeys, with pedimented gables. The exterior is rendered with raised and polished ashlar margins and has cornices above the ground and first-floor windows.
On the east elevation, which is the principal façade, there is a central door with a key-blocked roll-moulded surround, and the windows are arranged in a regular pattern, decreasing in height from the ground floor upwards. The west elevation, which is the rear, has central half-landing stair windows on the first and second floors, along with flanking windows on each floor that mirror those on the east elevation.
The interior was not seen in 2003, but it retains some timber horned sash and case windows, which were formerly 12-pane, along with stair lights that have margin-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, featuring straight skews and corniced ashlar end stacks. The building also has cast-iron rainwater goods.
