Description
This is a single-storey cottage, likely dating from the 18th century, which was later raised and incorporated into a larger, two-storey farmhouse constructed in the early 19th century. Some window dressings from the 16th or 17th centuries were reused in the upper-floor windows.
The front of the farmhouse is a wide, three-bay design built of painted rubble. A gabled brick porch of the 20th century is positioned off-centre. There are three evenly spaced four-pane sash and case windows on each floor, and a smaller window to the ground floor on the left side. The upper windows feature reused dressings, including roll-moulded cills and checked back jambs.
The rear elevation is harled, with four-pane sash and case windows. The roof is slate, with flat skews and a sandstone ridge. The end stacks are coped and topped with mostly octagonal cans.
Local tradition suggests that a tower house once stood nearby, and its cut stones were used in the construction of Barskeoch Mains. The site of Old Barskeoch Castle is not listed in the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments inventories.
