Description

The graveyard at Keir is an irregularly shaped enclosure built on a slope. It is enclosed by rubble-built walls with corniced gatepiers constructed of squared red rubble and topped with pyramidal caps. The graveyard contains a variety of tombstones dating from the 17th to the 19th centuries, some featuring good classical sculpture. A notable feature is the family monument of Kirkpatrick MacMillan, the inventor of the pedal bicycle. The site served as the location of the parish church until the construction of the present building in 1814.
