Description
This is a two-storey, three-bay former manse, built between 1777 and 1778. Later dates, 1828, 1870, and 1965, are recorded on a modern door lintel. The building is situated on a slope, incorporating a basement to the north-east. It is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, all now painted, with contrasting margins.
The south-west elevation has been rebuilt. It features a central doorway, 12-pane sash windows, a band course separating the floors, a cornice, a blocking course, and end stacks built on ramped plinths. The roof is piended and platformed, covered with graded slates. The north-east elevation also has three bays and includes two basement doors and a single dormer with a finial and ornamental bargeboards.
In 1828, the original wings were removed, and an addition was made to the east, possibly designed by John Smallwood, the architect at Drumlanrig. This addition has since been removed. Simple ashlar gatepiers, curved quadrant walls with coping, and an outbuilding to the south complete the property.
