Town Hall And Custom House, 5-9 St Andrew Street, Castle Douglas

The Town Hall and Custom House, located at 5-9 St Andrew Street in Castle Douglas, was built in 1862 and features an asymmetrical Italianate design. The building is constructed of polished ashlar stone with raised angle margins and a basecourse, and it stands two stories tall.

All the windows are round-arched lancets, which have pilastered reveals, keystoned archivolts, and bracketed cills. On the left side, there is a recessed gabled bay that contains a tall three-light window. The central section features a pilastered doorpiece with a decorative cartouche above and a bipartite light on the first floor.

To the right, there is a symmetrical three-bay section, with advanced outer bays that have single lancets, while the inner bay includes a three-light window. The building is topped with an eaves cornice and a blocking course, with a block pediment over the center that is inscribed with "Town Hall, 1862." The roof is slate and has a piended design over the hall.
