Description
Dated 1817, Walton Park Stables are a symmetrically arranged stable block comprising four ranges around a cobbled courtyard. The construction is of squared rubble with some polished red sandstone detailing around the window margins and dovecot.
The east elevation features a three-stage gabled centre, along with single-storey and attic gabled end bays linked by single-storey ranges. Depressed-arch cart entrances are present throughout, with the eastern range converted into a dwelling, featuring windows and French doors set within the arches. The central gabled bay provides a pend entrance to the courtyard, with a loft and dovecot above. The dovecot is highlighted by a pointed-arch red sandstone panel pierced with flight-holes. The range to the right of the pend has also been converted to domestic use, with a tripartite glazed door squaring off the original cart-arch. Oval sandstone tablets inscribed "FAC ET SPERA 1817" are set into the gable ends.
The west range incorporates an unroofed horsemill, which was formerly a mill and barn.
A laundry, dating from around 1910, is located on the north side and includes a large brick kiln with cast-iron clothes dryers. The north and east ranges originally housed stabling and barn storage.
A large walled garden is situated to the west of the house, enclosed by coped rubble walls.
The stables form a group of buildings with group value alongside Walton Park and Walton Park Lodge.
