Description
This is an 18th-century tower windmill, an early 19th-century horsemill, and an 18th-19th century courtyard steading. The farmhouse, located to the east, is separately listed.
The windmill is a tall, circular tower built of rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a late 19th-century conical cap and weathervane finial. It features square-headed openings, with a door positioned above ground level connected by a platt to the upper door of an adjoining barn. The horsemill adjoins the windmill to the north and is circular, with full-height rectangular openings and a tall conical roof covered in finely graded slates.
The steading consists of one and two-storey ranges, some whitewashed, with lofts, and some brick additions. The east and west ranges are likely from the 18th century. The east range has a two-bay cartshed in its north gable, while the west range adjoins the windmill and horsemill. Further ranges extend to the north.
The original machinery within the windmill has mostly been removed. The site is notable for its unusual combination of power sources.
