Description

The Grove is an early 19th century, two-storey T-plan house located on St Andrew Street in Castle Douglas. The exterior features smooth-rendered walls that are lined to resemble ashlar, with rusticated quoins, a polished basecourse, and raised margins around the windows.

The front elevation is symmetrical with three bays, highlighted by a fluted Doric porch that supports double-leaf doors and a fanlight above. The windows are single-light with plate-glass sashes. The house has corniced end stacks with octagonal cans, thackstanes, and flat skews, all topped with slate roofs.

The flanks of the building are constructed from rubble and have unsquared quoins. At the rear, there is a full-height projecting gabled wing, which has modern single-storey flat-roofed additions.
