Description

Madras Villa is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay T-plan house located on Bignold Park Road in Kirkwall, with later alterations. The exterior features a flat-roofed entrance porch with a mutule cornice, and the walls are harled.

On the principal elevation, there is a window in the entrance porch, and to the right, a part-glazed door with a letterbox fanlight. Above this door is a window at the first floor, with a window in each bay on both floors. The side elevation has a window set to the right at the first floor, with a gablehead stack above it. There is also a blank single-storey projection forming part of the T-plan on the outer right.

The windows are 4-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with purple Welsh slate, featuring a stone ridge and stone skews. The gablehead stacks to the north and south are harled and corniced, while the tall gablehead stack to the east (rear) is also harled and corniced. The roof has ridged cylindrical cans, and the rainwater goods are made of uPVC.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The boundary walls consist of low rendered walls topped with a ridged cement cope, with replacement wrought-iron railings. Square-plan piers with pyramidal caps at the angles complete the boundary.
