Description

Clonfeacle Tower is a round tower dated 1810. It is constructed of rubble with red ashlar dressings, set on a base of boulders. The tower has a straight-sided design and is roofless, with the interior now completely gutted. A doorway faces east, with a plaque positioned above it. There are four windows on the upper floor, and a single slit window to light the stair. A band course runs below a coped parapet. The plaque records that the tower was erected as a monument to Rev Dr Wm Richardson of Ireland, who introduced fiorin grass, with the hope of achieving significant agricultural successes. The New Statistical Account, page 140, provides additional information.
