Description
The Post Office at 27 Main Street in Mochrum is a single-storey and attic, three-bay cottage built in the mid to later 19th century, after 1848. It is located at the end of a terraced row. The south elevation features roughly squared and snecked rubble with painted rusticated quoins and painted rusticated rybated margins around the windows. The west elevation is made of painted rubble and has a gabled, blank appearance with two stones protruding from the gablehead.
On the south elevation facing Main Street, there is a doorway at the center with a painted architraved doorcase that has a cavetto-splayed surround, leading to a modern partly-glazed door. The outer bays contain windows, and there is a modern full-width box dormer window above.
The west elevation is gabled and blank, while the east elevation is adjoined to No 29 Main Street, which is listed separately. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing. The building features red sandstone coped skews and scrolled skewputts, shared with the east side. The painted rubble stacks have red sandstone rusticated quoins and copes, with a gablehead on the west side, also mutual to the east. The roof is covered with purple slates, and there are square cans on the east stack.
