Description
Burnswark is an earlier or mid 19th century farmhouse with a full-height rear (north) wing. The main house is two storeys and three bays, constructed of whin rubble with contrasting walling on the north side. The front (south) elevation features a central boarded door with a fanlight and a console pedimented hood. Sash windows contain 12 panes of glazing. Shaped skews are present, along with end stacks including corniced octagonal flues. The roof is covered with graded slates. The rear wing was likely originally single-storey and includes a west-facing door.
The steading comprises asymmetrical ranges of whitewashed rubble and ashlar construction. Parallel blocks flank a courtyard, with a low range housing an implement shed and a taller two-storey block that formerly served as a bothy and farmhouse.
