Description
This building, located at 96-102 High Street in Dumfries, dates from around 1830 and features three storeys with attics. The ground floor includes shops, with a notable pilastered shop front at number 100, which is flanked by cast-iron columns beside the door. The façade consists of six bays, with an additional recessed bay on the left that is curved and corbelled above the ground-level pend. The exterior is finished in painted droved ashlar, with band courses that separate the floors and a string course at the first-floor cill level. The second-floor windows have projecting cills, and the building has plate glass sashes throughout. Additional architectural details include a cornice, a blocking course, and dormers. The end stacks were removed around 1985, and there is an unattractive modern wide central skew. The roof is covered with slate.
