Description
This is a circular dovecot, built before 1796 as part of Dalswinton House. The dovecot is constructed of red ashlar stone, with a stugged finish below a horizontal band course, and a droved finish above. Polished dressings are also present. The structure is now roofless and largely gutted. The dovecot is divided into two storeys by the band course. At ground level are two doors and two windows. Flight holes are located in the main cornice and beneath it. Corbels were originally situated above the cornice, but the parapet has been removed. The interior is partly brick-lined and shows evidence of an internal stair, while the original nesting boxes have been destroyed. A print from 1796 (held in the Ewart Library, Dumfries) depicts the dovecot with a corbelled parapet.
