Description
Burgh School, located on Bedford Place in Alloa, was designed by John Melvin & Son in 1875. This single-storey building features a baronial style with an asymmetrical layout, highlighted by a circular entrance tower topped with a conical roof and a belfry. The south side includes a basement storey. The exterior is constructed with red sandstone coursers and yellow sandstone dressings, and it has mullioned windows along with crowstepped gables that are slated. There are later additions, including an interesting part Art Nouveau housewifery department designed by Kerr and McCulloch.
