The Anchorage, 6 Granton Square, Granton, Edinburgh

The Anchorage is a single-storey and basement, three-bay, L-plan house built around 1840, featuring classical details. The structure is made of coursed, stugged sandstone with ashlar dressings, and it has architraved openings and an eaves cornice.

On the south elevation, there are concrete steps leading up to the entrance, which is located between the first and second bays. The entrance consists of a panelled timber door flanked by windows. To the right, there is a window with a moulded ashlar cornice above it, and below, a two-light window serves the basement. The right side of the elevation has quoins at the junction with the rear wing.

The north, east, and west elevations are adjacent to former stables at 157 Lower Granton Road to the north and east, and the former Granton Hotel to the west. The ground floor features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, although one has been altered. The roof is covered with grey slate and has an ashlar ridge stack with a moulded cornice on the main section, as well as a similar wall stack to the east of the rear wing adjoining the stables. The building also has round cans and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not inspected in 1997.
