Description
Circa 1840 with mid 20th century addition to W and late 20th century pub front. 2-storey, L-shaped, classical style public house with moulded pediment to principal elevation. Coursed, tooled sandstone (less finely coursed to rear) with ashlar dressings.
N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 7 bays (grouped 3-2-1-1); timber pub front with dentilled cornice to ground floor between 3rd and 5th bays: entrance with flanking windows; single window above; 3 windows to left, single window to right to each floor; single window above. Slightly projecting bay with moulded pediment and V-jointed quoins to right; central entrance with long and short surrounds; architraved window above. Mid 20th century addition with ashlar cornice to far right; central entrance with window above.
S ELEVATION: rear wing projects to far left; main block slightly wider at re-entrant angle. Steel fire escape to far right bay.
W ELEVATION: adjoins mid-20th century rendered extension to former Granton Hotel.
12- and 2-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roofs, piended to main block. Ashlar ridge stack with moulded cornice to west of main block and similar wallhead stack to E end; single round can.
INTERIOR: pub interior modernised, open-plan.
BOUNDARY WALL: small section of coursed sandstone wall with ashlar coping adjoins moulded ashlar gatepier at entrance to former stables at 157 Lower Granton Road.
