Description

This building at 150 Ferry Road, Edinburgh, dates from around 1840 and is a classical two-storey house with a basement, featuring three bays and forming the end of a terrace. It is constructed of yellow ashlar sandstone, with a painted basement and random rubble side and rear elevations. The house has a double-pile, rectangular plan and is set back from the street, with a garden and parking area in front. Architectural details include a continuous base, string and blocking courses, and a projecting cornice.

On the south elevation, there are railed steps leading to the ground floor entrance located in the right bay, which features a pilastered and corniced doorpiece, a replacement timber door, and an opaque glass fanlight. The remaining bays to the left have single windows on the ground floor, while the basement and first floor exhibit regular fenestration. The first-floor windows in the central and outer left bays have shallow window guards.

The north (rear) elevation shows regular fenestration across all floors. The south elevation has 8-pane timber sash and case windows, while the north elevation features 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has an M-gabled design, indicative of the double-pile plan, with ashlar apex stacks to the west, complete with projecting cornices and circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The boundary wall consists of a low random rubble coped wall along Ferry Road, which has been partially demolished for vehicular access, and there are replacement iron railings. A coped rubble wall runs along the west boundary.
