14 Baird Road, Ratho, Edinburgh

14 Baird Road is a pair of terraced cottages from the earlier 19th century, designed in a single storey, rectangular plan with seven bays. The main elevation features squared, coursed whinstone, while the side and rear elevations are constructed of rubble. The building has droved sandstone margins and quoins.

The main elevation consists of two cottages: No. 14 on the left has a four-bay front, while No. 12 on the right has a three-bay symmetrical front. The outer left bay of No. 14 is distinct due to its mutual skew, and it includes an adjacent window and a door with a modern fanlight in the fourth bay. No. 12 features a centrally located modern door with a letterbox fanlight and flanking windows.

Both cottages have eight-pane sash and case windows, although No. 14 has modern uPVC windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and features ashlar coping at the skews, with rendered and coped apex stacks and a ridge stack at the center, indicating the presence of a thack-stane.

The wall has a sandstone base course topped with squared whinstone and ashlar slab coping. Octagonal gatepiers rise above the wall and serve as corner piers.
