10 Baird Road, Ratho, Edinburgh

8 Baird Road in Ratho, Edinburgh, is a pair of cottages built in the earlier 19th century. They are single storey with a rectangular plan and consist of five bays. The cottages are constructed from coursed, squared whinstone, with droved sandstone margins and quoins.

The main elevation features No 10 on the left, which is a two-bay cottage with a boarded door and a plate glass fanlight. There are mutual skew marks that indicate the division between the two cottages. No 8, on the right, is a three-bay cottage that is nearly symmetrical, with a modern door at the center, a letterbox fanlight, and flanking windows.

No 10 has a 12-pane sash and case window, while No 8 has 8-pane sash and case windows. Both cottages have skylights in their roofs. They are topped with grey slate roofs, have ashlar skews, and feature rendered and coped apex stacks.

The boundary wall is made of stugged, coursed sandstone with ashlar coping. It includes slender square piers that have chamfered arrises and conical heads.
