2 Baird Road, Ratho, Edinburgh

This former schoolhouse, built in the mid-19th century, is a single-storey and attic structure designed in the Tudor style. It has a rectangular plan with three bays and is constructed from stugged, squared honey-coloured and red sandstone, featuring some pinning and polished red sandstone margins with chamfered reveals.

The main elevation has a modern door at the center, which is topped by the original three-light letterbox fanlight and a pentice bracketted slab canopy. To the left, there is a dormer-headed window, and a lancet window set in a pediment head. The outer right features a tall broad gabled bay with a tripartite projecting bay window at the ground level, which has chamfered stone mullions and a narrow window in the gablehead. The apex stack is slender and jettied.

The windows include a 12-pane sash and case window, as well as a four-pane window in the tripartite lights. The building has ashlar coping on the skews and skewblocks, with coped apex stacks topped with octagonal cans. The surrounding wall consists of a base course, a high rubble wall, and semi-circular coping.
