4 Wester Dalmeny Farm Cottages, Main St, Dalmeny

This is a mid-19th century cottage, originally single-storey and three bays wide with a broad, gabled roof. It is built of snecked rubble stone with droved dressings, featuring stop-chamfered arrises, advanced cills, long and short quoins, exposed rafter ends, and timber bargeboards to the gables.

The south elevation, which is the main facade, has a modern glazed timber door with a fanlight in the centre, flanked by a window to the left and an advanced bay to the right with a bipartite window. The east elevation is three bays wide, with windows in each bay. The north elevation has a single window in the advanced bay to the left, a window close to the re-entrant angle, and a harled addition to the right containing a harled lean-to coalshed with timber doors facing east and west. The west elevation is four bays wide, featuring a glazed vertically-boarded timber door at centre, a blank advanced block to the right, a later harled addition advanced to the left with irregularly placed windows, and a harled lean-to coalshed to the outer left.

The windows are timber sash and case and casement styles with lying-pane glazing. The roof is covered in graded grey slate, with cast-iron and plastic rainwater goods. A coped ashlar ridge stack is present, along with a stack breaking the roof pitch on the east side, surmounted by circular cans.
