Description
Earlier 19th century. Pair of 2-storey, attic and basement 3-bay classical houses. Polished ashlar sandstone. Base course; band course between basement and principal floor; projecting cills to principal and 1st floor windows; cornice and blocking course. Ashlar steps and entrance platts oversailing basement.
N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: pair of pilastered and corniced doorpieces flanking centre; 4-panel timber door with radial semicircular fanlight to right (No 5), 6-panel timber door with plate glass semicircular fanlight to left (No 7). Regular fenestration to remaining bays at principal floor, 1st floor and basement. Flagged basement area.
W ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (3, 3B Albany Street).
E ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (9, 9A, 9B Albany Street).
12-pane timber sash and case windows to No 5; plate glass timber sash and case windows to No 7. Grey slate roofs; later mansard roof to No 7. Pair of tripartite rectangular piended dormers to No 5; pair of later pedimented dormers to No 7. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Polished ashlar ridge stack, coped, with polygonal can; rendered ridge stack, corniced and coped, with circular cans. Coped skews.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1998.
RAILINGS: ashlar copes surmounted by cast-iron railings with spear-headed finials.
MEWS:
23 DUBLIN STREET LANE SOUTH: earlier 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay mews building, to rear of 7 Albany Street. Stugged and squared sandstone, random rubble gables. Broached ashlar dressings and long and short quoins, some modern.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: modern vertically-boarded timber door to right at ground. Pair of modern vertically-boarded timber garage doors to left at ground, with cement lintel. Pair of windows to centre and left of centre at 1st floor. Remains of coped rubble wall to left, with 2-leaf vertically-boarded pedestrian gate at centre.
W ELEVATION: predominantly blank gable, with window to left at ground.
E ELEVATION: blank gable, partly obscured by adjoining building.
9-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof, with modern skylight. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Coped skews.
