Description

21 and 21A Dublin Street is a terraced tenement building from the early 19th century, designed by Robert Reid and William Sibbald, with a later addition of a third floor. The structure is four storeys tall, plus a basement, and features a four-bay façade made of broached ashlar sandstone. It has band courses between the basement and the principal floor, as well as between the principal floor and the first floor. The building includes projecting cills at the first, second, and third floors, a defaced cornice at the second floor, and a cornice with a blocking course at the third floor. There are ashlar steps and entrance platforms that extend over the basement.

On the west (principal) elevation, there is a round-arched doorpiece in the second bay from the left, which consists of a nine-panel timber door with a radial semicircular fanlight. This door is flanked by a window in a round-arched recess to the left and architraved shop windows in the advanced bays to the right. The upper floors and the basement feature regular fenestration.

The north elevation adjoins another terrace, which is listed separately (1 and 1A Albany Street), while the south elevation also adjoins a terrace that is listed separately (19 and 19A Dublin Street).

The interiors were not seen in 1997, but there is some evidence of working panelled shutters. The building is topped with ashlar copes and features cast-iron railings with spear-headed balusters and urn finials.
