Description

62 Dublin Street is a terraced tenement building in Edinburgh, designed by Robert Reid and William Sibbald in the early 19th century. It has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, featuring a three-bay façade. The exterior is constructed from broached ashlar sandstone, with V-jointed rustication at the principal floor. There are band courses between the basement and principal floor, as well as between the principal floor and the first floor, along with a cill course at the first floor and projecting cills at the second floor windows. The entrance includes ashlar steps and platts that overhang the basement.

The principal elevation features a round-arched tripartite doorpiece in the right bay at the principal floor, which consists of a six-panel timber door topped with a plate glass semicircular fanlight. The remaining bays have regular fenestration at the principal floor and on the upper floors, as well as in the basement.

The northeast elevation is part of an adjoining terrace, which is listed separately (64-68 Dublin Street), and the southeast elevation is also part of an adjoining terrace with a separate listing (48-60 Dublin Street).

The building predominantly has two-pane timber sash and case windows, with decorative anthemion and palmette window guards at the second floor. The roof is a grey slate later Mansard style, featuring a pair of polygonal piended dormers. The cast-iron rainwater goods are complemented by a rubble ridge stack with broached ashlar quoins, which is coped and has circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997, but there is some evidence of working panelled shutters. The railings consist of ashlar copes topped with cast-iron railing featuring spear-headed balusters and urn finials.
