Description

64, 66, 68 Dublin Street is a terraced tenement building designed by Robert Reid and William Sibbald in the early 19th century. It stands three stories high, with an attic and basement, and features four bays. The exterior is constructed of broached ashlar sandstone, with V-jointed rustication at the principal floor. There is a band course between the basement and the principal floor, and the cills are lowered in three bays to the right at the first floor. The band course between the principal floor and the first floor becomes a cill course, with the remains of a cill course visible in the bay to the left at the first floor. A cill course is also present at the second floor, which is topped with a modillioned cornice and blocking course.

The principal elevation features a round-arched doorpiece in the bay to the left of center, consisting of a nine-panel timber door with a radial semicircular fanlight. There is a panelled timber common stair door with a plate glass rectangular fanlight to the outer left. The remaining bays at the principal floor contain windows, with regular fenestration on the floors above and in the basement.

The northeast elevation adjoins another terrace, which is listed separately (1-10 Drummond Place), while the southeast elevation also adjoins another terrace listed separately (62 Dublin Street).

The building predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with window guards in the bays to the right at the first floor. The roof is a grey slate M-roof, with a recessed rectangular dormer to the right. It has cast-iron rainwater goods, and the gablehead stack is made of rubble and rendered material, coped and topped with circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997, but there is some evidence of working panelled shutters. The property is also adorned with ashlar copes topped with cast-iron railings featuring spear-headed balusters and urn finials.
