Description

35, 37, 39, 41, 43, 45, 47, and 49 Dublin Street is a terraced tenement building designed by Robert Reid and William Sibbald in the early 19th century. It features four storeys and a basement, with a nine-bay facade made of broached ashlar sandstone. The principal floor has V-jointed rustication, with band courses separating the basement from the principal floor and the principal floor from the first floor. There is a cill course at the first floor, and projecting cills for the second and third floor windows. The entrance includes ashlar steps and platts that extend over the basement.

On the west elevation, there is a six-panel timber common stair door with a six-pane rectangular fanlight, located centrally at the principal floor. Round-arched doorpieces are found in the third bays from the left and right, featuring six-panel timber doors with umbrella semicircular fanlights. The remaining bays at the principal floor have windows, while the upper floors display regular fenestration, including window guards in four bays to the right at the second floor and in the basement. Notably, there is a timber bow window at No 49.

The north elevation adjoins another terrace, which is listed separately (51-59 Dublin Street), and the south elevation also adjoins another terrace, listed separately (2 and 4 Albany Street). The building predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate M-roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The ridge and gablehead stacks are made of broached ashlar and are coped with circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997, but there is some evidence of working panelled shutters. The railings consist of ashlar copes topped with cast-iron railings featuring spear-headed balusters and urn finials.
