Description

32, 34, 36, and 38 Dublin Street is a terraced tenement building designed by Robert Reid and William Sibbald in the early 19th century. It is three storeys high with a basement and features a seven-bay layout, including a recessed central bay. The exterior is constructed from broached ashlar sandstone, showcasing V-jointed rustication at the principal floor. There are band courses between the basement and principal floor, as well as between the principal floor and the first floor. A cill course is present at the first floor, except in the centre, and the second floor windows have projecting cills. The building is topped with a dentilled cornice and a blocking course at the second floor. Ashlar steps lead up to the entrance platts that overhang the basement.

On the east (principal) elevation, there is a six-panel timber common stair door with a three-pane rectangular fanlight, centrally located at the principal floor. This door is flanked by a pair of round-arched doorpieces, each with nine-panel timber doors and radial semicircular fanlights. The remaining bays at the principal floor contain windows, while the upper floors maintain regular fenestration.

The north elevation adjoins another terrace, which is listed separately (40-46 Dublin Street), as does the south elevation (26-30 Dublin Street). The building features 12-pane timber sash and case windows and is topped with a grey slate M-roof, which includes rectangular dormers on the outer left and right. Cast-iron rainwater goods are present, along with rendered stacks that break the pitch and a rendered gablehead stack, both coped and fitted with circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997, but there is some evidence of working panelled shutters. The railings consist of ashlar copes topped with cast-iron railings featuring spear-headed balusters and urn finials.
