Description
26, 28, 30 Dublin Street is a terraced tenement building in Edinburgh, designed by Robert Reid and William Sibbald in the early 19th century, with a later addition of a shop front. The building has four storeys and a basement, featuring seven bays. It is constructed from polished ashlar sandstone, with V-jointed rustication at the principal floor and bull-faced rustication at the basement. There are band courses between the basement and the principal floor, as well as between the principal floor and the first floor. Cill courses are present at the first and second floors, and the third floor windows have projecting cills. The building is topped with a cornice and blocking course at the third floor.
On the east (principal) elevation, there is a four-panel timber common stair door with a six-pane rectangular fanlight, centrally located at the principal floor. This door is flanked by an advanced shop front to the left, which includes a recessed two-leaf glazed door, a cast-iron gate, and plate glass windows, featuring chamfered arrises and a dentilled cornice with brattishing. There is a round-arched doorpiece in the third bay from the right, which contains a four-panel timber door and a radial semicircular fanlight. The remaining bays at the principal floor have windows, while the floors above display regular fenestration, with window guards in the bays at the third floor, except at the center.
The north elevation adjoins another terrace, which is listed separately (32-38 Dublin Street), as does the south elevation (8 and 8A-20 Abercromby Place). The building predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate M-roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The ridge and gablehead stacks are broached ashlar, coped, and fitted with circular cans.
The interiors were not seen in 1997, but there is some evidence of working panelled shutters. The railings consist of ashlar copes topped with cast-iron railings featuring spear-headed balusters and urn finials.
