Description

17 and 17A Dublin Street is a terraced tenement building designed by Robert Reid and William Sibbald in the early 19th century. It features three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a two-bay façade constructed of polished ashlar sandstone. The principal floor showcases V-jointed rustication, while the basement is finished with broached ashlar. There are band courses separating the basement from the principal floor, the principal floor from the first floor, and the first floor from the second floor. The second-floor windows have projecting cills, and the building is topped with a dentilled cornice and a blocking course.

On the west elevation, the principal entrance is located in the right bay at the principal floor, featuring a round-arched doorpiece with Ionic columns that support an entablature adorned with foliated necking and a fluted frieze. The entrance includes a four-panel timber door with a radial semicircular fanlight. To the left at the principal floor is a tripartite window, with similar windows above in the same bay. The right bay has windows at the first and second floors, while the left bay contains a window at the basement.

The north elevation has a pilastered doorpiece at the centre right of the basement, with windows above on all floors. The south elevation is part of an adjoining terrace, which is listed separately (13-15 Dublin Street).

The building predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows. It has a grey slate M-roof with two slate-hung rectangular dormers and cast-iron rainwater goods. The gablehead stack is rendered and coped, with circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997. The property is also enhanced by ashlar copes topped with cast-iron railings that have urn finials.
