Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey, attic and basement, 15-bay classical terrace, comprising 5 3-bay houses, stepped down to E. Polished ashlar sandstone; V-jointed rustication at principal floor; droved ashlar at basement. Base course; band course between basement and principal floor, principal and 1st floor; cill course at 1st floor; mutuled cornice and blocking course at 1st floor. Ashlar steps and entrance platts oversailing basement.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: variety of 6-panel and 9-panel timber doors in tripartite doorpieces in bays to right at principal floor, with plate glass semicircular fanlights , except at No 15, with surviving radial semicircular fanlight and glazed side lights. Windows in remaining bays at principal floor; regular fenestration to floors above and basement. Flagged basement area.

Predominantly plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roofs. Variety of dormers; tripartite rectangular dormer and slate-hung bow-fronted dormer at No 11; piended box dormers and polygonally piended canted dormers at Nos 13 and 15; pair of polygonally piended canted dormers at No 17; pair of polygonally piended canted dormers with blinded sides at No 19. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered and polished ashlar ridge stacks; coped, with variety of cans. Coped skews.

INTERIORS: not seen, 1998, but some evidence of working panelled shutters.

RAILINGS: ashlar copes surmounted by cast-iron railings with spear-headed and urn finials.
